WATER QUALITY & FLOOD MANAGEMENT
Some of our member farms fall into the Lune Rivers Trust Forgotten Farms Project. This project helps to minimise pollution from farms by eliminating run off from farm yards and surrounding fields which could pollute the River Lune and its tributaries.
There is ongoing work with Lancaster University in their research on flood mitigation
Alongside this there is ongoing work with Lancaster University in their research on flood mitigation, water capture and a focus on slowing water down upstream reducing flooding further downriver.
Where we are able we are also looking at the restoration of peatland with its huge carbon storage abilities as well as re-wetting creating new natural habitats where appropriate.
